Using the Blackberry Desktop Manager in Parallels (WinXP) on Mac
Posted by: Marker | Uncategorized | 21.11.2007
Well it took some time, but here is the resolution..
Exit Parallels
Download the Blackberry for Mac software from the link below and install it
Move or rename the BlackberryUSB*.kext folders out of the /System/Library/Extensions folder (i just renamed mine to *.orig)
Restart the computer
Open the parallels config window and make sure that under Resources the USB Controller is set as Autoconnect ON

Restart Parallels and plug in the Blackberry – It will now recognise the device and work correctly. If you havn’t already done so install the windows Blackberry software.
I’m not entirely sure that I needed the PocketMac s/ware installed as in theory since we are using WinXP this should not be necessary, but I could not get it to work unless I installed it, and once it was working I did not want to try removing the PocketMac software and try again. If anyone has any other experiences please share them here.

Good luck – may the force be with you.

Well, your old article still works today. Have a BB Curve, running a Mac and Parallels. The fix simply was to remove the two “BlackberryUSB.kext” files in the directory you mentioned. Didn’t need to download the Mac app. or make any other changes. Works like a champ now. Thank you.
