Today I am pleased to announce we have relaunched Marker Studio with a fresh new look. At the beginning of this year, Jenny, our Digital Art Director, approached me to talk about the brand, which we both agreed was well overdue for a refresh. As an agency, our focus is always on our clients and their projects and deliverables, and so despite having all the talent available to get this done, anytime we do work for ourselves, it is surprisingly challenging. This represents much hard work by the team and we are very happy with the outcome.
A brief history
A bit of background for those of you who might not know, this is actually the seventh time we’ve updated or refreshed the brand, since I founded what was later to become the current business we are today, in late 2000. In 2006 we merged two businesses, The Outfit and Flux Design, and launched as Marker. In 2011, Marker Metro was launched along with Marker Labs and we decided to rename the original agency Marker to Marker Studio, with Marker being retained to describe the overall group.
Why the change?
The only constant in our industry is change, and we strive to continuously update our thinking to keep ahead of the game. We adopted responsive design at a time when it was still considered bleeding edge by some, and we also invested heavily in native mobile and tablet app design and development before there was really a viable market for those services. These two areas have now become a massive part of our businesses and we wanted a new dynamic look to reflect this.
We have also done a great deal of analysis of our positioning and the type of work we enjoy and want to do. The conclusion of this is that we are changing our tag line to:
“Digital Product Development Agency”
We create enterprise-quality web, cloud, tablet and mobile apps that fundamentally support, strengthen or enhance our clients’ product and service offerings.
What’s behind the new logo?
Jenny’s vision for this brand was to reflect the dynamic and ever changing nature of our business and industry. The result is we have 6 different variations of the logo in 4 colours. Everyone has 3 sets of business cards, and you’ll see the different logos used interchangeably, as it suits our mood/the weather/seasons/outfits or anything else! The icon reflects the process and journey that we undertake with each project.
Keep calm and carry on
I wanted to let you all know about the change and reassure you that this is business as usual and all current service offerings remain. This is more of a realignment of our brand with the current business offering, which has changed substantially in the last 2-3 years since we last reviewed this.
I also wanted to thank you all for your support. We our proud and grateful to work with you and your organisations, and we look forward to continuing to work together as a collaborative partner.
